How to use the dialer? ---------------------- Thank you for using our dialer. If you just installed the program you should see now a little telephone receiver icon in the system tray. Right click on this icon to access the menu and load the program. Please read the following instructions carefully to learn how to use the dialer: 1. Lock menu item Originally it is checked (means locked). This setting affects only dialing via the re_dial.dll. When TAPI is used, that is the default this setting is ignored. 2. Detects menu item Originally when the program loads to memory this is always checked (active), which means the program monitors the clipboard and whenever data resembles to a phone number appears on the clipboard the dialer pops up with the phone number. This is sometimes not desirable. In this case click on the menu item (uncheck it). 3. Call up the dialer by either of these methods: a. Double click on the icon in the system tray. b. Right click on the icon in the system tray and select the Load meny item. c. Save to the clipbard a phone number while 'Detects' is active. d. Launch the dialer with a phone number on the command line. 4. Entering phone numbers Phone numbers may be entered by any of the following methods: a. Type the phone number instead of the text 'Phone number' appears in blue color b. Copy the phone number from any other application to the clipboard (Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert) and than paste it to the 'Phone number' field in the dialer. When you click on this field while a phone number is copied to the clipboard the number will appear. You can also right click on the field to display a menu and than select 'Paste', or paste with the Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert key combinations. c. Launch the dialer with the phone number on the commandline from Start-Run or from another application that allows that, such as MSWord or Excel or MSAccess. 5. User defined long distance prefix When the long distance prefix you need to use is not shown click the Options-Customize User defined long distance menu and enter the prefix you need. You can also edit it and remove it the same way. 6. Optional Long Distance provider calling number When you want to use a different provider than your default enter the provider's calling number to the green area and make Active marked. This entry will automatically be saved and re- appears next time. The Lock menu item in the system tray icon menu locks the provider entry when it is marked. 7. Dialing a. The default method is using TAPI. Use the Options menu to switch to using the re_dial.dll instead. b. Click on the Dial button. In case of TAPI dialing ----------------------- c. Status messages are displayed in the main dialog. d. A popup window appears. e. Pick up the receiver and click on the OK button. In case of re_dial.dll dialing ------------------------------ c. When the Options-Display 'Pickup Receiver' menu is checked a message will appear while dialing 'Pickup Receiver' and you will need to click the OK button (or press the enter key) to disengage the computer from the phone line. d. When the above menu item is unchecked and the re_dial.dll is used the Dialer willautomatically disengage from the phoneline after the number ofseconds set with the Options-Set delay menu. The default is 8 seconds. e. Mark the Skip Area code when the area code appears in the phone number but it does not need to be dialed. Use the Options-Base length of phone numbers menu to determine the length of the phone number without area code. 8. Options - Display Pickup receiver When it is unchecked upon successful dialing a message box appears with the instruction "Pickup the receiver". When it is checked the message box is skipped and the modem disconnects after the number of seconds set in the 'Set Delay' option. (Works only with re_dial.dll) 9. Options - Set Delay (Works only with re_dial.dll) Controls the time elapsed from successful dialing to disconnect when the 'Display Pickup Receiver' option is checked. The user should pick up the receiver before this time is over. 10.Options - Customize user defined long distance Allows to set a custom long distance prefix. 11.Options - Phone number length for long distance Setting this number to minimum 9 in America will cause to select the long distance prefix automatically. The desired long distance prefix needs to be selected while setting the option. 12.Options - Phone number length for International calls Setting this number to minimum 12 in America will cause to select the long distance prefix automatically. The desired long distance prefix for international calls needs to be selected while setting the option. 13.Options - Use TAPI default method using Microsoft TAPI for dialing. 14.Using TAPI allows the use of multiple modems on multiple phone lines. 15.Options - Use re_dial DLL uses modem dialing via COM port w/o TAPI. 16.Uninstallation Select the Actions - Uninstall menu. The program will be removed from your computer when you next reboot the machine. 17. Troubleshooting TAPI If you use TAPI and the Remote Dialer does not dial or does not disconnect change your TAPI settings. Installing TAPI in windows: To see if TAPI is already installed, click Start - Settings - Control Panel in the windows task bar (note: TAPI is always installed in Windows 2000 or later) and look for the Telephony icon in the Control Panel dialog window. If it is not there do the following: In Control Panel click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Select the Windows Setup tab and click on Communications. Click Details and check Phone Dialer. Click OK. Setting up TAPI in Windows 95, 98, ME and NT: In Control Panel, double click on the Telephony icon. In the Dialing Properties dialog select the Telephony Drivers tab. The name of the telephony driver for the modem or PBX should be displayed. If it is not, click Add to display the Add Driver dialog. Select the correct driver from the list displayed or select Unlisted or Updated Driver and click Add again. (If a modem is being used for the telephone system and telephony driver software is not available, select Unimodem Service Provider.) Select Setup to configure the telephony driver. For Windows 2000: Click Start - Programs - Accessories - Communications - Phone Dialer from the Windows task bar to display the Phone Dialer applet. Click Edit - Options. In the "Line Used For" group box, select the "Phone Calls" drop-down list and select the desired telephony driver. (If the correct telephony driver (TSP) could not be found ask your PBX dealer to install the correct TSP software.) Click OK to dismiss the dialog box. Click the Dial speed button and enter a number to dial to be sure the system is working. For Windows XP: Click Start - Run. Type dialer. Press the Enter key to display the Phone Dialer applet. Click Edit - Options. In the "Line Used For" group box, select the "Phone Calls" drop-down list and select the desired telephony driver. (If the correct telephony driver (TSP) could not be found ask your PBX dealer to install the correct TSP software.) Click OK to dismiss the dialog box.
