The Remote Picture Server and the Remote Picture Viewer are communicating via HTTP on the default port 80. This port is generally used by web servers and usually is not blocked. Port 80 is not available for the Remote Picture Server if your computer or the network in which your computer resides operates a web server. You need to configure a different port using any unused port number and ensure that your firewall allows HTTP access on this port to your computer.
The Remote Picture Viewer behaves just like Internet Browser. When IE or any other browser works on your computer Remote Picture Viewer will work too. Of course, assuming a working Remote Picture Server as a partner.
Remote Picture Server includes a custom web server with limited functionality. Files and folders in the root directory assigned to the web server will be accessible from outside. Make sure there is no file in this area that contains confidential information even though in order to access any files there the intruder must know the name of the file. Remote Picture Viewer will list the name of the picture files (only picture files). For enhanced security the Remote Picture Server can be protected with password. When password protection is activated the web server is secured against any intruder.
